NUSA PENIDA, BALI

An unexpected surprise from a popular place like Nusa Penida, Bali. It is a quiet place, less explored by tourists, unconsumed, away from the crowds, all a 45-minute boat ride from Bali. The beaches are breathtaking. In fact, they are the most beautiful ones we have seen in all of Bali. The forests are untouched, the villages have not lost their authenticity. Despite this, there are no large resort hotels and constructions. One wonders how such a paradise has eluded people's radar for so long.

This isolation stemmed from the belief that the island was home to demons and evil spirits, especially Macaling, who spread diseases. This place has been such an undesirable place throughout history that in the 18th century, prisoners were exiled to the island. Even today, fingers point to Nusa Penida when an epidemic or natural disaster strikes. Balinese go to Nusa Penida only on religious holidays where they are obligated to go.

Then, when Instagrammers discover that Nusa Penida is a wonderful place, the island hits the radar. As the beauties on land and underwater, and its spiritual and cultural significance begin to circulate, the island is suddenly on the list of the Most Beautiful Places to Visit in Bali, including ours.

Despite all this, it is very difficult to call Nusa Penida a touristic island. Because there is neither a touristic infrastructure nor luxury holiday opportunities on the island… The roads are bad, some places are even terrible, and food, beverage and accommodation options are very limited. But these are all good things in terms of keeping the island as it is. For now, Nusa Penida appeals only to the audience who can appreciate this untouched state of the island, but unfortunately, in line with the increasing demand, large investments have been made around the island. You see, change is at hand!

Places to visit and things to do in Nusa Penida mostly revolve around the natural beauty of the island. If I can't get into it, then you can at least say let's explore with a drone, but we must warn you that this hole, which looks innocent from above, is a complete drone swallower. He swallowed a man's DJI Pro drone while we were there. However, the man was devastated. We think that when you start to go down the hole, the signal weakens somehow, there is also a strong air flow inside, you lose hop control. Then don't say you didn't warn you, you'll be sorry.

Finally, let's underline that getting there is a bit of a hassle. Especially with scooters… The road gets worse and worse, and after a certain point, you go over potholes and stones. So make sure that the bike you rent is in good condition. Most importantly, be careful not to be left in the dark while returning. If you are not an experienced driver, just come here by tour.
